A confidential space to explore and develop your confidence, compassion and wisdom for letting-go
Welcome, and thank you for visiting Letting-go. My name is Michelle Whiteside and I am Psychotherapist, Supervisor, Elder, Mindfulness Teacher and Wild Therapist in Turriff, not to far from Banff, and Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire
LETTING GO IS ABOUT LEARNING HOW TO TAKE CONTROL, FEEL BETTER and BECOME MORE EMBODIED
Change is not easy, but the sages, mystics and wise amongst us know that in order to move forward and live the best version of our lives we need to accept where we are and ask ourselves if this is ok or all we want. When we accept where we are, we can make the decisions necessary for that change we may feel is required. At that point we have already begun the process of Letting-go. It is also a point where you may decide to come and chat to someone who can help what ever stage you are at.
‘Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.’ James Baldwin
About me
Over the many years I have been a qualified UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and supervisor and BACP Accredited counsellor, I have worked with people from all walks of life, cultures, sexualities and backgrounds, each coming to me with a diverse range of concerns and life transitions. I have tended to work long term but have a good deal of experience with a shorter term model. I work on-line and in person and have extensive experience of working internationally on-line. I studied and am affiliated with Re-vision a UKCP and BACP accredited Registered college. I have a diploma in counselling, a post grad diploma in psychotherapy and a post grad diploma in supervision. I am also an experienced qualified MBSR Mindfulness Trainer teaching groups and individuals.
My love of nature and keen interest in environmental issues led me to want to explore Ecotherapy further. Wild Therapy (developed by Nick Totton) offered that opportunity through many ways either going for a walk or talking about your surroundings and the impact it has on you. I trained as an Embodied Relational Therapist and have taught counselling at degree level.

Supervision is a wonderful support for training and trained Counsellors and Psychotherapists. It is a place of exploration, imagination and creative adventurous growth of the therapist. It offers a safe space to work with the dynamics within the therapeutic and supervisory relationship. Its a place to discuss theory and practice, explore emotions, confusion and mistakes. A place where the therapist can take risks, mourn failures and celebrate success.
One of my passions as a supervisor is exploring the role of self care as a counsellor and/or psychotherapist. We spend a great deal of time attending to our clients. How can supervision support you in attending to yourself and enrich you and your client work even more.
Mindfulness is about being aware of the moment that we are in non-judgmentally. The present moment. The only moment that we can control. The past has gone and the future is not yet here. Mindfulness helps you to accept that your thoughts are real but are not necessarily the truth. Mindfulness also helps support the process of getting you into your body and feeling your way through where you are right now. It aligns beautifully with my trans-personal psychotherapy training but also the art of Letting-go.
I make a reference to being an Elder above, it is a nod to where I am in life and the knowledge I have gained and which informs me daily. Being an Elder supports me in the work I do with clients also. There is a wisdom of age when your open to learning, letting-go and adapting. What being an Elder also means is living with my body not responding as it did.
From 2004 when I began my counselling diploma training, up to March 2020 I had always seen most of my clients in person or some on-line international clients at my private practice. But as we know the world moved on line at that point in history and so did my psychotherapy practice. I am seeing clients on line but can facilitate in person if this is something you would prefer.
For clients interested in exploring Wild Therapy, I am happy to talk about how we can facilitate outdoor work that feels safe for us both.
In my 18 years experience of working on-line and in person, I have found that on-line working although not exactly the same as being in the same room or next to someone in person, it is often very rich and for some a more freeing way of working.
For example; one of my areas of expertise is working with depression and anxiety, not having to leave the surroundings of your own home can help with the process of opening to your experience in therapy.
I have a sliding scale when charging and hope to make therapy as affordable as possible. I prefer to see clients weekly.
My fees are £55 to £65 you pay what you know you can afford.
Integrative Psychosynthesis
The modality I originally trained in is a Transpersonal approach to counselling and psychotherapy. The work brings together Body, Mind, Soul and Spirit. A Synthesis of all we are. It was developed by Roberto Assagioli who was a student of Jung. The work is supported in its thinking by the work of Gestalt, person centred, Family Systems Models, Ecotherapy, and other humanistic therapies.
